In-office procedures include:

All of these procedures are common and done in-office on a routine basis.

Colposcopy

Colposcopy is typically recommended after an abnormal Pap smear. During a colposcopy, your gynecologist uses an instrument called a colposcope to examine the cervix, vagina and vulva for signs of disease. A small sample of tissue, or biopsy, is taken and then sent to a lab to test for cancer. The procedure generally takes less then 20 minutes and can be performed in a doctors office.

Cystoscopy

Cystoscopy is a procedure that allows your gynecologist to view the bladder, urethra and opening to the uterus. It is performed to diagnose signs of cancer, infection, narrowing, blockage, structural issues and bleeding. During a cystoscopy, a small sample of tissue is taken for a biopsy.

Endometrial Ablation

If you are experiencing heavy periods, your doctor may recommend a procedure to treat the lining of your uterus (endometrium). Endometrial ablation is a non-surgical office-based procedure used to treat the lining when birth control pills have been ineffective or have produced undesirable effects such as weight gain, moodiness, etc.

NovaSure®

During the in-office NovaSure® procedure, your physician will gently insert a thin wand, with a mesh array, into the uterus. Once the mesh has conformed to the uterine wall, a radio frequency is generated for about 90 seconds and the wand with the array is then removed. This radiofrequency energy permanently removes the uterine lining.

With Novasure, the uterine lining will be shed over the next week to 10 days. Results have included a significant reduction in menstrual bleeding, stopped periods, reduced PMS symptoms and reduced pain and cramping.

Hydrothermal Ablation (HTA)

During the HTA procedure, your gynecologist will insert a probe into the uterus. This device includes a tiny telescope for viewing the lining of the uterus. To eliminate or reduce bleeding to normal levels or less, heated saline is circulated. This is intended to destroy the lining of the uterus.

Contraception

IUD Placement

An intrauterine device, known as an IUD, is a small, plastic, T-shaped device that is placed inside the uterus to prevent pregnancy.

NEXPLANON

Effective as the pill but without the daily hassle, NEXPLANON is a birth control implant that goes is placed under the skin of the inner, non-dominant upper arm by your gynecologist. NEXPLANON is over 99% effective and lasts for 3 years.

Hysteroscopy

Your doctor may recommend a hysteroscopy to take a look inside the uterus. A hysteroscopy utilizes a hysteroscope, a slender telescope-like device, which is inserted into the uterus. It is not performed on women who are pregnant.

This is an in-office procedure that can help to:

  • diagnose or treat uterine problems associated with abnormal bleeding
  • to help with the diagnosis of frequent miscarriages
  • to locate an intrauterine device
  • to remove adhesions caused by infection or past surgeries
    perform sterilization procedures

Loop Electrosurgical Excision (LEEP)

LEEP is a procedure used to treat abnormal cervical cells found from abnormal Pap test results that have been confirmed by a cervical biopsy. Performed under local anesthesia, LEEP removes pre-cancerous cells found in the cervix. This is done to prevent cervical cancer. Visit our office to learn more about LEEP, and if it’s right for you.
